Surely it’s just good business sense for real-ale pubs to give out a sample of beer to the discerning drinker? That’s not necessarily the case, as we found out on a lunch-time visit to a certain Liverpool pub.
Isle of Mann brewery O’Kells presides over these two smashing city centre boozers facing each other from either side of a flagged courtyard (one of the city’s most popular beer ‘gardens’ on warm summer nights) rough-hewn tables, mis-matched chairs, great ales, convivial chatter and no airs and graces. And a decent ploughman’s platter to boot.
