Think bike

The council is helping us get fit with a series of group bike rides around the city.

Time to dust of your bike - stored in the cupboard under the stairs over the winter - and give those tyres a good pumping. Summer means a lot of things to different people, but one thing most of us can relate to is a renewed attempt to shed a few pounds and adopt a shiny new healthy lifestyle.

Here at SevenStreets we’ve determined to get in shape over the summer and will be exploring a number of assorted ways on making the most of outdoor Liverpool. Don’t worry, there’ll still be time for a pint in the Baltic at the end of it, but this is the decade of health and wellbeing after all.

The council is helping with a series of group bike rides around the city, kicking off with Cycle Aigburth conducting a tour around some of South Liverpool’s prettiest spots.

Cyclists of all abilities can take part in a tour that starts at Sefton Park and takes in the waterfront promenade and Albert Dock before returning to South Liverpool via Wavertree and Mossley Hill.

The ride includes on-road stretches but will be led by qualified cycling instructors, with children under 14 required to be accompanied by an adult. A roadworthy bike would be handy too

If you can’t make it, don’t worry - Cycle Aigburth hosts bike rides on the last Sunday of every month around Aigburth and Liverpool and also offer the opportunity to brush up on cycling skills and bike maintenance.

And if you’re feeling independent there are also a number of Liverpool cycling routes offered by the council.

Starts Sefton Park Gates (Ullet Road/Aigburth Drive)

Thanks for this, I’m glad to see anything that encourages cycling around the city.

Another local bike event worth noting is the Wirral Bikeathon, which raises money for the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Society. It’s on Sunday, June 12th at Arrowe Country Park (see http://www.wirralbikeathon.org.uk for details). It’s open to all ages & abilities.
