Better L8 than never: Toxteth Heritage Trail launches

It’s lovely to see Toxteth being given a push lately. A few weeks ago there was the excellent, grassroots-organised Toxteth Day, and now word comes to us that there’s a brand new thing to participate in.

Toxteth Heritage Trail is set to kick off later this month, and it sounds rather great. It’s basically a three and a half mile walking (or cycling) route, marked by a set of banners, displays and footprints - taking you past Toxteth’s best architecture, history and curiosities. But what’s included? You’ll get to see and learn about Princes Park, the Florrie (Florence Institute), Toxteth Town Hall, St James in the City Church and the Welsh Presbyterian Church, amongst others.

Though many of us will already know about L8′s gems, to have a free, mapped-out walking tour available like this is a pretty perfect way to rediscover the area. And, let’s be honest, you could probably do a pretty good pub tour along this route too. If you’re new to Liverpool, however, it’s going to be a great way to learn for the first time about one of our most fascinating zones: ignore the city centre for a day, explore Tocky instead.
