Picture This: Post Office exterior by Stewart Bale Ltd
A little slice of Gotham City in Liverpool - Sam Bytheway has unearthed an old picture of the city Post Office we think has never been seen before.
Merseyside Maritime Museum’s Stewart Bale Ltd collection is a rich treasure trove of images of old Liverpool. I’ve dipped into it before for photos but think that this one is a bit special, as it has only recently been digitised so there is a good chance that most people wont have seen it.
The building itself is vaguely familiar as it still stands in central Liverpool, following a few alterations. The top two floors were removed after sustaining serious damage in the Blitz. More recently a shiny new facade was added, transforming it into the Met Quarter.
