Radar: Tony Teardrop at St Luke’s Church

A new production to be staged in the Bombed-Out Church, will take an offbeat look at homelessness and boasts stunning photography from Lee Jeffries.

Liverpool’s St Luke’s Church will be the venue for a new play written by Esther Wilson, specially commissioned for the roofless church.

Tony Teardrop is set in and around a support centre for homeless people and is inspired by true stories; it’s the first play written for St Luke’s and will also feature a related exhibition of portraits of Liverpool’s homeless people by 2011 National Photographer of the Year Lee Jeffries.

Jeffries’ iconic images of homeless people will be used within the production, and in the run up to the show Lee will also be coming to Liverpool to capture some new homeless images as well as photograph the production.

With a local cast that includes Manchester actor Neil Bell - you may have seen him in 24hr Party People and Shane Meadows’ harrowing Dead Mans Shoes - and regulars from Cut To The Chase Productions, the production will be staged by the Cut to the Chase company.

Artistic Director Jen Heyes was recently behind Treasured at the Anglican Cathedral - she will direct and produce the show - while Jeffries and Liverpool 5-piece The Cubical are named collaborators.

Jeffries is known for his photographs of people living on the streets and there’s a sneak peak above of his work. For more information on Tony Teardrop head over to co-producer’s the E+P.
