Morrissey for Macbeth

Another coup for EverymanPlayhouse, as one of our own comes back home again, this time to tackle Shakespeare's darkest tragedy...

Sadly, not the possibly-bigoted Hulme singer, but the rather excellent - Kensington-born - David Morrissey, is to tackle the might of Macbeth, this May, at The Everyman, with the rather excellent Jemma Redgrave - latest in that theatrical dynasty’s roll-call of leading actors - as his darkly ambitious other half, Lady Macbeth.

The, ahem, ‘Scottish play’ will be directed by Everyman Playhouse’s Artistic Director, Gemma Bodinetz, and looks set to continue the theatre’s incredible run of ambitious, block-busting productions, attracting the cream of the country’s (nay, the world’s) acting crop.

Morrissey, for a time rumoured to be in the spotlight as the next Doctor Who, first acted at the Everyman as a Youth Theatre member alongside Ian Hart, Mark and Stephen McGann and Cathy Tyson.

He says: “To have the chance to perform this great play at the theatre that has meant so much to me throughout my life is a dream come true. The Liverpool Everyman started me off on my journey as an actor and to be here at this time in its history is a proud moment for me.”

Gemma Bodinetz says: “Macbeth will be the first Shakespeare I have directed since becoming artistic director of the Everyman and Playhouse. I feel with a Macbeth and Lady Macbeth of this quality we have the foundation stones of a truly remarkable production.”

Is this a hit we see before us?
