Typical eh? You wait years for a cricket documentary (crick-umentary? No? OK), then two come along at once.

We speak, of course, of From The Ashes and Fire In Babylon, two films that you can catch at FACT this week dealing with the real beautiful game and featuring live satellite hook-ups with some of the men feature in the films.

We’ve had a sneak preview of From The Ashes, which tells the story of Ian Botham and his fight for the little urn over the summer of 1981 against a backdrop of social unrest, The Specials and Margaret Thatcher.

It’s heady material, both on the pitch and off, and should be a no-brainer for any lover of the sport of the genre. Think brilliant boxing doc When We Were Kings meets superb BBC archive clips programme The Rock’N'Roll Years and you’re about right.

Sir Beef himself and professional gloom-monger Bob Willis will be doing a live Q+A, which will be broadcast before or after the film.

Meanwhile, Thursday brings Fire In Babylon, where the fearsome West Indies team of the 70s and 80s gets similar treatment.

With apartheid and race riots as the inevitable counterpoint to events on the pitch here, music from Bob Marley and Gregory Issacs soundtracks the most feared team in cricket’s exploits of yesteryear.

A Q+A with Sir Viv Richards will be shown to accompany the film, which rounds of a top week for cricket lovers in Liverpool. See you there.

It would be natural to assume, since no-one has bothered to contact any Liverpool cricket clubs, that both events are sold out. But this is not the case, tickets are available for both films at a tenner each for both nights.
