Words apart: Tom Watson MP, Benjamin Zephaniah at Writing On The Wall festival

A favourite MP, a poetry heavyweight and a ska-pop legend all feature at this year's Liverpool literary fest.

We’ve enjoyed previous Writing On The Wall fests: an annual get-together of literary names, speakers, songwriters and creatives that brings some top notch events to the city.

This year is no different: heading up the lineup is the passionate and popular Tom Watson MP (above), fresh from giving Rupert Murdoch a bollocking at the Parliamentary enquiry and assisting the Hillsborough Justice Campaign. He’s joined at the Black-E for a discussion about the nature of the British press with Rebecca Leighton (falsely accused as being a “killer nurse” by the Daily Mail, with zero evidence) and investigative journalist Graham Johnson.

Other highlights? Poet and playwriting legend Benjamin Zephaniah (left) discusses multiculturalism over at St George’s Hall, while ska/two tone legend Pauline Black from The Selecter (below) hosts an evening at the Philharmonic’s Rosewald Suite.

There’s oodles of other good stuff on, too: signings, discussions and performances right across the city this spring, proving it’s way more than just a festival for bookworms.
