Are women funny? Find out this Sunday

Are women funny? Four Liverpool ladies reckon so - we recommend you make up your own mind this Sunday.

Are women funny? It’s a long-standing question that SevenStreets has no intention of prodding with a barge pole. But we’re happy to pose the question. So is Lily’s Comedy Extravaganza - a showcase of four Liverpool comediennes designed to raise cash for The Lily Centre, a breast cancer support group.

The event has been organised by Kristal Clark, one of Liverpool’s Cultural Champions ,who has been busy spreading the word on the city’s cultural events over the last 12 months, and is now dedicating her time to promoting female comics in Liverpool. In a city where a bit of brass and a smart mouth practically come with a birth certificate there’s good reason to believe that these ladies will more than hold their own.

Comedienne Pauline Daniels will compere the evening and will be joined by Lindzi Germain, Katie Tracey, Helen Keeler and Katie Friel.

“I think that comedy seems to be on the rise in Liverpool with the presence of more and more big name acts and also more opportunities for amateurs to dip their toe in,” says Kristal.

“It would be a real shame if Liverpool, who claim to have the best sense of humour, were to leave the girls behind.

With the Funny Women Awards in May as part of the Comedy Festival it seems like a good time to check out the female talent.
