Radar: a.P.A.t.T. Orchestra in Lutyens Crypt

If you haven’t seen a.P.A.t.T. by now then what the hell are you playing at? One of our favourite musical memories was seeing the collective play a soundtrack to Nosferatu a couple of years ago, but there’s plenty of strings to their bows.

Including an orchestra. Not many bands have their own orchestras, but a.P.A.t.T. do – a loose group of musicians much given to interpretation and improvisation.

The connection between music and the visual – or the physical – is a recurring topic explored in depth during the recent Musical Settings series that’s seen a.P.A.t.T. Orchestra performances in Sefton Park and the World Museum’s aquarium.

Coming up next week is the latest installment – and they’re going underground at the splendid Lutyen’s Crypt. Exploring concepts of depth, resonance and claustrophobia, the performance will include a repeat performance of Terry Riley’s ‘In C’.

It’s probably going to be deep. Quite literally.
