Nice’n'Mellow Does It…

More musical talent ahoy, as Mellowtone lines up two great nights of folk/acoustic/country goodness from near and far that you'd be awfully silly to miss.

There’s precious few things you can rely on around here. Spanish strikers? Blazing summers? Er, boat shows? Thankfully, Mellowtone’s a soothing constant in a sea of change. Not that the monthly event is stuck in some kinda nu folk groove. Not a bit of it, as the shindig’s next couple of outings convincingly prove. Always managing to pull something shiny, fresh and essential out of their knitted tea-cosy shaped hat, the Mellowtone chaps have done it again, mixing the best local talent with the kind of musicians that make us go weak at the knees, and wish we’d taken up the fiddle in the womb.

Next week’s event features the hauntingly beautiful Ragz, with Blackpool’s acoustic wonderkid, Karima Francis together with the frighteningly talented Jonas Alaska, with his breezy Americana-infused pop.

Then, in March, it’s the turn of the mighty Lau - Winner of ‘Best Group’ in BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2008, 2009 & 2010! Inventive, infectious and intelligent, their musical stew and energy-infused sets are a thing of wonder, blending centuries-old Orkney reels with insistent rhythms and intricate song craft. They’re supported by Liverpool’s country punk troubadour Dave Owen. Go see.
