Liverpool Music Week picks part 2: Cashier No 9

Supporting the gritty bar-room blues of Marcus Foster, our second pick for LMW is Belfast's wall of sound supremos, Cashier No 9. Well worth queuing up for.

Unlike the annoying woman who orders you about in the Halifax lunchtime queue, Cashier No9 are a pure headrush of fun. And their orders are more of the ‘report to the dancefloor’ variety than ‘shuffle to that window to beg for an overdraft’.

‘To The Death Of Fun’, their debut set released this summer, was just about the only unbroken 40 minute spell of sunshine SevenStreets can honestly remember.

Shimmering, cinematic and drenched in psychedelic reverb, Cashier No 9 are the Instagram of pop bands: tinged with retro goodness, but utterly, convincingly of the moment. That they’ve breathed life back into our favourite Belfast bad boy, David Holmes (for it is he twiddling their studio knobs) is yet another reason to catch a blast of warm Northern Ireland sunshine this autumn.

Review: Lincoln

— With more than a whiff of revisionism, Lincoln unfortunately offers exposition over a cinematic experience.
