Tron the comeback trail: Ladytron’s Best Of

Rejoice! Liverpool's finest synth-pop gang are returning.

We very rarely post up album news on SevenStreets, but we’re making an exception this week, because we bring news that one of the city’s best bands are back.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a decade since Ladytron’s first records - the seminal ’604′ and ‘Light & Magic’ - were released. Formed in Liverpool in 1999, their presence was a much-needed kick up the arse at a time when Britain (and the city’s) music scene was overflowing with ferociously boring lad rock. The quartet were enigmatic, glamourous, and had a set of absolutely stunning electronic pop tunes tucked under their monochrome utilitarian chic. It was about as far away from The Bandits as you could possibly imagine.

Ten years later, the globetrotting group have not only contributed brilliant things locally - being involved in Korova and Evol - but had an impact on music worldwide. Their icy, detached synth-pop can be heard in everything from Goldfrapp to Lady Gaga, with big-lunged warbler Christina Aguilera even flying ‘em in to work on her latest record. It’s safe to say they’re one of the most well-known electronic bands in the world.

They release long-awaited career retrospective ‘Best of Ladytron: 00-10′ on March 29th, and there’s a brand new album coming later this summer which we’ll tell you about very soon. In the meantime, have a listen above and remind yourself just how brilliant they are.

— The Grosvenor Pulford may look like another country hotel, but it harbours an extraordinary oasis of calm that deserves further investigation.
