Radar: Music India, Capstone Theatre

Enjoyed Africa Oyé and the Arabic Arts Fest this year? More thrilling (and wallet-friendly) world music visits the city this month, this time all the way from India.

Who:We just can’t get enough of global sounds here in Liverpool at the moment. There’s another brilliant selection coming up this month: Music India, a festival of Indian culture and music, is set to take over the Capstone Building and its theatre.

Our particular favourites appearing are the hypnotic Bombay Jayashri (below), Gaurav Mazumdar and flute genius Shashank (pictured), a former child prodigy and widely regarded as one of the best musicians in the world. Performances are priced at a recession-tastic £5, and there’s workshops, talks and food (provided by Mayur) to soak up those authentic vibes. Its sister festival, Dance India, runs until the 20th.

Where:
Capstone Building & Theatre,
Liverpool Hope University, Shaw Street
25th - 30th July
