Radar: Mokoomba at The Picket, Liverpool

Africa's coolest new band head to town next week - fusing all the best bits of music from across the globe. Your winter warmer starts here.

Luckily, the term ‘world music’ has now been rightfully relegated to the scrapheap of cringe - with the advent of YouTube, broadband and filesharing, country borders and genres become mushed up and insignificant. New generations of musicians are pushing forward with little concern for existing musical boundaries, and it’s completely thrilling.

Africa’s excellent Mokoomba are one such band, and they head to The Picket on 10th November. A joyful fusion of Afro-pop, ska, dancehall and shuffling salsa, the fresh-faced Zimbabweans are an absolute must-see. Check out their recent appearance on Jools Holland below, if you needed any more convincing.

Review: Bravo Figaro!

— A very different kind of show from Mark Thomas is a beautiful piece of work that doesn't patronise his father's illness, not ignore his frailties, as they connect over a love of opera.
