Liverpool Acoustic Songwriter Challenge at View Two Gallery

Reckon yourself as another Dylan? Another Joni? Or maybe a - gulp - Ringo? The View Two gallery hosts a songwriting competition this weekend.

Sometimes we’re a bit cautious about Liverpool’s countless acoustic songsmiths. There’s a lot of them, and it’s a bit hard to keep track of the decent ones. But aside from the ‘blah’ and La’s covers, there’s also a dedicated community of guitar-wielding songwriters doing really great, creative things in all different kinds of spaces.

Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge returns for a second year, and kicks off this weekend - posing performers a mission to create a song based around the art on show at the View Two gallery. They’re invited to pop in on Saturday afternoon (where there’ll also be free performances and an open mic to get you in the mood) and pick one piece of art to write about.

It’s an interesting idea, and songsmiths have just a month to write the song. There’ll be a live final on 23rd November, where awards will be given for the judges and audience’s favourite: the winner gets studio time at Crosstown Studios. We’re plucking our ‘G’ string in anticipation.

Liverpool Acoustic Songwriter Challenge
View Two Gallery, Mathew Street, Liverpool
Entry day: Saturday 8th September (1pm - 4pm)
Showcase final: Friday 23rd November
