Liverpool Music Week picks part 3: Ghostpoet

Fresh from a Mercury Prize nomination for his uh-may-zing ‘Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam’ album, Ghostpoet’s the big name at this year’s Liverpool Music Week.

He’s already visited the city one earlier this year, with a stunning gig at the Shipping Forecast, but this time the London-via-Coventry rapper’s back as a fully-fledged star.

Live, Ghostpoet is an arresting performer: his woozy rhymes and hypnotic delivery rub up perfectly with the strutting electronica and wiry beats underneath. Fans of the harder side of hip hop might find it all a bit limp, but for the rest of us his post-pop poetry is a must-see.

If the ‘poet doesn’t take your fancy, there’s a million other bands to check out at the LMW closing party: Visions of Trees, Vessels, Lucky Beaches, Echo Lake and Drums Of Death all play across the multi-roomed venue on the 11th.
