Gig for goodness: ‘Be The One’ fundraiser, the Zanzibar

Charity gigs ain’t what they used to be.

This one will be though. We told you all about Steve Pilgrim’s Be One Percentcharity a while back. Now, the Liverpool musician who currently occupies Paul Weller’s drum stool, is hosting a fundraiser (‘Gig for Goodness’) for his 1% network.

The group celebrated their first birthday recently and are throwing a party at The Zanzibar Club to spread the word further.

Headliners Cave Birds are visiting from across the Pennines and their brand of jittering, Talk Talk-esque pop is not to be missed. Local support comes from Pilgrim’s usual backing band and purveyors of shimmering Scouse melancholy, Dead Cities.

The striking voice of local songstress Rachael Wright will also feature, alongside performances from Manchester four-piece The RainBand (remember Peter Hook’s Monaco? Here’s the other one…) and a slot from Pilgrim himself.

With latest album, Pixels & Paper, still occupying our turntable time, catch the ex-Stands and Cast man now, before he resumes duties across the world with The Modfather.

“Social media has played a vital role for Be One Percent,” says Steve. “But you’ll find its word of mouth that works best. Talking to people gets them on board.”
