Doom shake the room: Demdike Stare at Kazimier

The city's best audio/visual gang, HIVE Collective, put on an extra special night of immersive creepiness this month.

Local electronic promoters HIVE Collective are anything but predictable. You won’t find them doing a half-arsed clubnight at a generic Liverpool bar every third Tuesday of the month just because they can. When they do decide to put on an event, however, it’s always special, unique and memorable.

Case in point: they’re bringing Mancunian experimental doom-pop dudes Demdike Stare to the city in a couple of weeks, for a headline set at the Kazimier. As far as we know it’s their first ever time playing in Liverpool, so it’s a rather big coup, and they come with a live show that’s been honed across Europe’s best cutting edge arts festivals. Taking creepy horror samples, shuddering bass and organic anti-melodies, Demdike aren’t your typical Thursday night party music. But open your ears and their tunes are full of space, warmth and layers: live, they’re also surprisingly danceable.

The evening’s set to be a rather impressive audio/visual spectacular, with woozy techno artist Castor doing a set, as well as underground filmmakers BASF, who are set to premiere a new short film and do some live stuff too. Probably the best mind-bending fiver you’ll spend all month.
