Show Me The Cake

Like a bit of cake? Who doesn't. We know just the place...

Where’s the best cake shop in Merseyside? It’s official - after scooping top prize at the Fine Foods Awards, SevenStreets can reveal that you’re going to have to catch the Wirral Line to Bebington Village for the finest Victoria Sponge known to humanity.

Ceri Newton – a self taught award-winning baker - won the prize at today’s Fine Food North West Awards. Reason enough, we’d say, to make the trip to what’s fast becoming a food-lover’s peninsula (Wirral, after all, still holds the region’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, just up the road from Ceri, at Fraiche in Oxton).

Ceri’s shop, Gorge ‘us, is a real treat - simple, homely food, excellent baking, and great coffee. A real labour of love (Ceri gets up every morning at 5.30 to bake. Is this woman perfect? Oh, no. She came up with that dreadful name.) Ceri’s dedication has finally paid off.

We say, go for afternoon tea (freshly baked bread supplied by a local artisan baker), take a good book, and just remember - there’s more to life than Starbucks.

Another slice? Don’t mind if we do…
