Art for Our Sakes

The art now arriving at Edge Hill is shortlisted to win the Liverpool Art Prize

The indefatigable Artinliverpool.com hosts its third Liverpool Art Prize again this year - this time around at the fabulous Metal, on Edge Hill station. You might have had a sneak preview, if you’ve walked down past Fred Perry in Liverpool One. And you might think, as Sevenstreets does, that the competition’s gonna be a tough one this year. Which proves, like it needed it, that visual arts is alive and kicking in Liverpool. With a record breaking 95 nominations, Artinliverpool director Ian Jackson and co have whittled the list down to the final five: The 2010 finalists are Gina Czarnecki, David Jacques, James Quin, Paul Rooney (winner of the 2008 Northern Art Prize) and Emily Speed. The winner scoops £2,000, while the winner of the People’s Choice Award chosen by us, the people, gets a grand. Which don’t come for free, as you know.

See what you think - the exhibition runs from Friday 4 June til 10 July
