Live Read

Live Read, the Echo and Post's online reading and literature festival, celebrates the city's great literary talents - and, hopefully, unearths some new ones too...

Today sees the launch of the three day Live Read Festival, staged by the Daily Post and Liverpool Echo. Aiming to rekindle our love for the written word, the festival is a celebration of literature from our city, and all the encouragement you’ll need to re-start that Great Unfinished Book you’ve been threatening to write.

Who says the internet is killing reading?

Over the next few days, the city’s great and good will be speaking out for the importance, joy and escapism you only get when immersed in a thrilling story or poem - with a series of e-books, online videos, podcasts and competitions.

This year’s discussion will be based on Wirral writer Kevin Sampson’s Awaydays, the story of two teenagers drawn into football hooliganism that was made into a film in 2009 (and the film, dare we say it, only confirmed that, sometimes, you can’t the power and pull of a good book).

World-renowned science fiction writer Stephen Baxter, a former pupil of St Edwards School, inWest Derby, will be answering readers’ questions in a live online interview. And Ormskirk-based screenwriter John Fay, who started his career on Liverpool-based soapopera Brookside, and is currently working on the new series of Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood, will be the highlight for the city’s legion of SF fans

So dive in to the programme, and who knows, the next Liverpool literary giant could be you
