Say goodbye to Summer with a suitably unpredictable, and thoroughly enjoyable day of festivities along Hope Street this weekend...

Feel suitably inspired by the biennial and the Papal visit? Combine a bit of street Catholicism with creativity at the Piazza Art Market, at this Sunday’s 5th Hope Street Feast. The annual street party is packed with music, art markets, theatre, dance, great food, drink and produce, all along the Hope Street from the Metropolitan Cathedral to LIPA between 10.30am-5pm.

The Piazza Art Market at the Metropolitan Cathedral is the place to head if, like us, you’re already thinking of Christmas, and are in the mood to shop for gifts while your plums are steeping in a sweet sherry for the pudding. Ok, made that bit up. But, still, this excellent market is the place to mooch around or buy unique creations made by the good, honest, trustworthy hands of local artists and designers.

Elsewhere at the Hope Street Feast there’ll be four free concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (you know we talked about Liverpool’s music scene being in the doldrums? We forgot to say that this is one group who are really making a big noise outside of the city), open air music stages, street theatre, and free open days at the Metropolitan Cathedral Lutyens Crypt, the Unity and Everyman Theatres and many other buildings around Hope Street all add to the neighbourly festivities of this excellent event. And, should you need advice on how to steep your plums, don’t miss the Can Cook Domes at Blackburne House plus the great outdoor dining areas and bars.

The whole shootin’ match is accompanied by Hope Street Ltd’s street theatre, which this year presents “Wealth and Hellbeing.” With music stages on Myrtle Street – The After 8 Stage – and Mount Street – The LIPA Stage – and all manner of occurrences from the roof of the Liverpool Guild of Students’ building to the brooding hulk of the Anglican Cathedral.

We don’t have a favourite street in Liverpool. But if we did, Hope Street would be on the shortlist…
