Liverpool Central Library to re-open with outdoor projection event

Liverpool Central Library is to re-open next month - and for their opening party, there’s going to be some rather impressive sounding animated projections on the front of the building.

The library, which we had a sneak peek inside earlier in the year, is officially re-opening on the 17th May (coinciding with Light Night - more on that soon), and they’ve organised a huge digital projection party over two nights. The facade of Picton Library’s to be transformed into a massive bookcase (see the rather tasty artist’s impression above), and inside the building there’s a corresponding bookcase where selected members of the public will be able to pick books out. The projections outside will animate and move accordingly - Alice In Wonderland, for example, will see Alice leap from window to window across the front of the building.

In addition to the big opening party, there’s also the ‘In Other Words’ literary fest, kicking off next week and leading up to the opening. First off is World Book Night next Tuesday (23rd April), where authors Philippa Gregory, Jasper Fforde, Jeanette Winterson, Patrick Ness, Jackie Kay and Frank Cottrell Boyce will be appearing at a special event held in St George’s Hall. There’s then a full programme of booky, literary goodness across the city over the next few weeks.
