Any excuse to sip the water of life and we’re there. So it is that Burns Night sees the city celebrate our deep and proud Celtic heritage. Why not try a whisky tasting masterclass at the Ship and Mitre on 28th, or a Burns Night Ceilidh at St George’s Hall (kilts optional, with rabble-rousing reels courtesy of Gallimaufry and traditional Scottish scran and whiskies at the bar) over at St George’s Hall. Jenny’s Bar (a sublime place at any time) has a whisky tasting by those fine chaps from The Whisky Lounge on Jan 27. There’s a Burns Night Supper at the Catholic Chaplaincy, 30 Catharine Street - with hagggis tatties and neeps, a dram and some Rabbie Burns recitals, on the 24th, for just £3. If you fancy raising some cash for a good cause, there’s a Burns Night Supper in aid of the wonderful Brain Charity, Norton Street, on Jan 30.
