Strictly Scouse Dancin’

Throw away the Wii, banish the monthly membership to the gym you never visit. There is another way to fitness - let's boogie our backsides down to Hanover Street this weekend.

Yeah we know…you can dance, for inspiration. But, if your rhumba’s a bit rusty, and Anne Widdecombe could give your robot dance a good licking, it’s time to call in the experts. Strictly Start Dancing, at BBC Radio Merseyside this Saturday, could be the only excuse you need to dust down your lycra, and roll up your leg warmers.

Up For Arts is gathering Liverpool’s leading dance groups and classes all under the one roof this weekend, allowing you to pick and mix your way through the best movers in the city, without the need to get all dolled up and down a few shooters in the Mood Bar.

Take your pick, sign up for classes, and shimmy your way into Spring. And, by summer, it’s just possible you’ll have shed those stubborn pounds and have a podium with your name on it in the Newz Bar. Next, you’ll be booked for private parties at Moll-Teazers, and have thighs like a James Bond dominatrix.

OK, maybe not. But you get the idea. Dancing’s fun, healthy and, with the right tuition, not as embarrassing as being publicly humiliated every Saturday night on prime time telly, being thrown around the floor by a jiving lothario.
