LFC stars’ cars

Stroll around Castle Street or any of the public byways near the business district and you’ll see some fascinating cars. Many of these will be due to the many accountants and solicitors that frequent that end of town but, more often than not, they’ll belong to an altogether different kind of more money than sense type.

Namely Premiership footballers. Torres could often be sighted around Liverpool in an Audi R8. Jermaine Pennant had an Aston, probably a DB9, while Pepe Reina had a Porsche Cayenne, until it was stolen when his house got done over - another case of the ‘Liverpool footballer robbed while on pitch’ spate of burglaries that used to happen quite regularly.

Dave Evans sent over a few snaps of more recent LFC stars’ cars turning up in the city. Reina features again, this time sporting a Porsche 911 Turbo, while there’s an unidentified Range Rover Cosworth Sport - a far more recognisable kind of ‘footballer’s car’.

Best of all is the Dodge Challenger SRT-8 in a matte paint job (above), belonging to Raul Meireles and sighted outside the Bar and Grill on Brunswick Street.

You can see a lot in Liverpool if you keep your eyes open. Architectural delights and curios, roads that don’t go anywhere, seemingly forgotten works of art, Jimmy Corkhill… and, if it’s your thing, some quite stunning pieces of metal.
