First Footing on the Wirral

Put your best foot forward this New Year's Day, and take a walk on the Wirral side...

Dunno what it’s like in your household, but here at SevenStreets HQ, we simply love to walk off all those ‘buy one get one free’ tins of M&S Shortbread, and NYE hang-overs, by strolling out purposefully into all that countryside stuff John Craven’s always jizzing over.

So, imagine our delight when we happened upon these free fold-out walk and cycle route maps of the peninsula they call leisure: Wirral.

Handily complete with big, bold PH signs to guide the weary rambler to their nearest hostelry, the maps offer bite sized (3-6 mile) breaths of fresh air, taking in some of the Wirral’s finest vantage points, coastal scenery, and, yep, freehouses. Our favourite - Irby and Thurstaston. We’ll see you at the Irby Mill.

If you’ve been particularly good this year, and Santa brought you a shiny new Raleigh Chopper, you can tackle your choice from Wirral’s excellent network of cycle routes.

You can pick the guides up from the Merseytravel Information Centres, train stations, and the 08 Place on Whitechapel, but we got ours from a Premier Inn in Manchester. To be honest, we’d say that was wishful thinking on the part of Wirral tourism, but good luck to them…
