Three Ring Circus

Making music before your ears...Laurent Garnier and co prepare to rip it up and start again this weekend at Circus.

Who said January was the dead zone for clubbing? This Saturday, Laurent Garnier brings his LBS project to Circus, redefining the parameters and redrawing the boundaries. As he’s been doing for the past, oooh, 20 years?

As anyone who caught his show at Sankeys last November will know, this is some set up:
together with Ben Rippert on keys, and Stephane ‘ Scan X’ on beats and sequencers (hence, er, LBS, we’re guessing) this is one ménage à trois that promises to get very dirty, and very sticky…

“Whilst on tour, we developed a very open style of playing,” Garnier says, “interacting, improvising, and expressing ourselves freely, something that I thought I could only achieve through my DJ sets. It was obvious that after a long period spent touring round some of the biggest festivals, I was going to feel an overwhelming desire to go back to my roots (clubs and records), but the idea of finding myself alone behind two decks was impossible. So why not combine the two? Why not play other people’s records alongside my own tracks, played live?

“After more than twenty years spent DJing, I really wanted to take it a step further. Sometimes, when I see other DJs playing out today I get the feeling that they’re bored, that they don’t get off on what they’re doing anymore. It is very clear to me why the idea behind L.B.S came to life because not only will it give my work a new lease of life, it will also offer a new and very different experience to club goers.”

A night at the Theatre may never be the same again. Oh, and if that’s not enough, they’ve only gone and got Aeroplane in The Loft. Ouch.
