A new night needs a good name or a blistering music policy to secure its place on our evening excursions - thankfully, Stephanie Heneghan's found one that ticks both boxes with Francois Kevorkian at Silo's new 'I Am' DJ Showcase nights...

Whilst Liverpool might not exactly be lacking in club nights to attend, we’re a welcoming bunch in Merseyside and there’s always room for another. In this case we’re referring to I AM… a venture by one of the Development crew.

After five years of putting on parties with Development in Manchester, Andy Proctor decided to try something a bit different. I AM… is a stripped back format, focussing on one DJ and allowing them the whole night to play with, something of a rarity in today’s nightlife. So far I AM… has hosted two nights at Sound Control in Manchester with Doc Martin and Dixon providing the beats, then last year took the journey down the M62 and set up shop at Silo.

With well attended nights for Kerri Chandler and Stacey Pullen thus far, it was going to have to be a very special name to keep up the momentum and the latest guest hasn’t disappointed. Step forward Francois Kevorkian, a name which commands respect in the dance music world. Often touted as the DJ’s DJ, he’s had a career spanning 30 years, learning his trade at Studio 54 and The Paradise Factory in New York as well as being one third of the legendary Body & Soul trio alongside Danny Krivit and Joe Claussell.

FK’s sets are, to use a well trodden cliché, a journey. From techno to house, with sprinkles of electro tinged disco and the occasional bit of dub step, it’s never a dull event. Speaking to Andy about his thoughts for the night, he told us “it’s a bit of a long fulfilled dream to be able to print out flyers with Francois’s name on them! After the past two I AM… nights at Silo were so well received, I felt a bit of pressure to try and top them but when FK confirmed to play, I knew it was going to be a winner.”

“I’m really excited to see what he’s got planned for the five hours, there’s been an overwhelming amount of positive feedback so it’ll be fantastic to see the hard work pay off. Silo is a great venue which fits in perfectly for the ethos behind I AM…, it’s going to be the party of the year”.

Seven Streets has had the pleasure of seeing Francois K play previously and when his name appeared on posters around the city we cleared our extremely busy social calendars to make sure we could be there. As far as top tips go, this is a night you should definitely attend. Get a move on though as the early bird tickets didn’t last very long and it’ll be locked out without a doubt. See you on the dancefloor!
