Radar: Chibuku at Easter

It's Easter. And it's time for the longest weekend of your year, courtesy of a couple of Belgians, a Housecat and a cast of brilliant support acts, at Chibuku.

We love Easter. There are many reasons why we love Easter – the bountiful chocolate on offer, the fact Lent is finally over and we can stop feeling guilty about sneakily eating the crisps we said we’d given up and the extra two days off work is a bit of a bonus too. It means that we can go out on a Thursday night and not have to worry about getting up at 7am and troubling the Maccy’s Drive Thru to try and fight off the hangover. Don’t pretend you don’t do the same, unfizzy Fanta coupled with a double sausage and egg McMuffin can work wonders.

So with Good Friday to recover, this year we’re heading off to Chibuku’s new digs at Camp and Furnace on Greenland Street to see what they’ve got in store. We were pretty chuffed when we saw Felix da Housecat, even more excited when we spotted DJ Hype on the roster but when they announced last week that they’ve got 2 MANY DJS in town – well, it went down pretty well. They’re the masters of the mash up mix and they have the kind of discography that makes you want to dance just by looking at it. And yes, that includes a bit of Siouxsie and the Banshees here, and a soupçon of Queens of the Stoneage there. Look them up in the dictionary, under Eclectic.

Couple their special brand of house party music with the hedonistic environment that raving in a warehouse will always conjure up and we reckon this will be one to remember. It’s certainly the best house warming we’ve been invited to in a while.

Also on the bill is Roni Size (amazing), Shy FX (boss), James Rand (our local favourite), cmwmsmdwm (talk about too many djs) and Sessions Faction (ace). Oh and us, on the dancefloor, dancing like we’ve got a 4 day weekend to recover from it.

(We’ve got a competition to win tickets for this and an interview with one of the headliners coming up so keep an eye out for that)

Review: Bravo Figaro!

— A very different kind of show from Mark Thomas is a beautiful piece of work that doesn't patronise his father's illness, not ignore his frailties, as they connect over a love of opera.
