Don’t let anyone tell you Liverpool isn’t an interesting and innovative place to be right now. Amid all the cuts to the arts that are beginning to hack into our cultural landscape, the DIY ethic will always (necessarily, and) instinctively find a way to step in and pick up the slack. Thank God.

One such DIY’er is the still fresh indie-pop night, My Twee Box (this Thursday will be its fourth instalment), showcasing up-and-coming artists given the remit of playing pared-down, acoustic versions of tracks imbuing venue, 3345, with an intimate and distinctive vibe.

The acts on the bill of this week’s MTB are drawn from Liverpool, and very slightly further afield, in the shape of confessional singer/songwriter Amanda Robson, the superbly named feminist indie-rockers Awesome Wells (geddit?), and making the short trip from Manchester, fresh from impressive support slots with Electrelane and Blonde Redhead, the music collective, Womb.

The night is customarily rounded off with a DJ set from Luc (Luca Bartozzi, the night’s founder) and Pete, playing a sweet mixture of psych, shoe-gaze and, of course a dose of what Bartozzi himself describes as ‘dream-pop’ – our Italian isn’t all that, but we reckon that definitely translates as twee! On top of all this, the night is free of charge which, to us, adds up to a night providing the perfect antidote to the accumulative bitter pill of those aforementioned cuts.
