Liverpool Art Prize winner, Robyn Woolston is one of the city’s most engaging and exciting artists - raising questions, encouraging conversations and traversing the gap between ourselves and our places. Whether it’s a metaphor for a post-apocalyptic world, or an intimate exploration of our obsession with stuff her work is never less than arresting. Disquieting even.

Her latest site-responsive intervention at the Walker examines our throw-away society head on. It’s a bold and shocking intrusion, transplanting 3,600kg of cubed-up bales of waste beneath the cool vaulted ceilings of the galleries.

We’ve linked up with the Walker to offer readers the chance to win a signed copy of Robyn Woolston’s limited-edition Waste.Product.Istanbul.

A powerful document of a society at war with itself, the book features an emotive set of photographs taken during Woolston’s residency in Istanbul, where she experienced first hand the waste ‘processes’ at large in this starkly divided city, with the ‘Papermen’ - the city’s unofficial recyclers - scavenging through others’ waste for scraps to live off.

The installation also features colourful photographs of the natural burial ground in South Warwickshire, where Robyn’s mother was buried. What appears to be a flawless solution; an ecological burial which returns the body to the earth, is contaminated by man-made materials amongst the decaying floral tributes consigned to the compost bin.

The highly limited edition book is available from the Walker Art Gallery shop, priced £50, and there are a mere 50 copies available.
