The Weekly Seven: 24th September 2012

A blog of completely surreal pictures to Bold St Festival. Liverpool's most on-the-ball clubnight to lush Swedish pop. All the things we approve of this week.

Consume Consume

WEBSITE Who doesn’t love an online collection of amazing photographs? No, not of the Serengeti at sunrise. Of girls drunk in stairwells, or clubbers sticking their fists in their mouths? Yeah, that’s the way we roll. And that’s why we love this random gallery so much. http://consumeconsume.com

Jens Lekman - I Know What Love Isn’t

ALBUM The only thing missing from Camp and Furnace’s rather lovely Swedish weekender? Swedish music, like the talented Jens Lekman’s new and wonderful third album. More wistful than his previous work (it is a break up album after all) it’s still stuffed with classic pop hooks and warm, self-depricating humour.

Beach Ball with Tighten Up, The Kazimier, 28 September

CLUBNIGHT With our favourite Toxteth soulboy Esco Williams heading the bill, this is set to be a typically tropical affair, and one that the weather can’t ruin (it’s indoors, not in the garden) - expect the best in funk, reggae and soul. And sets from We The Undersigned, and the ten piece party collective Soul In One. More information

Bold Street Festival, Bold Street, 30th September

EVENT The annual celebration of one of the city’s most historic, wonderfully independent streets happens again this Sunday. There’s live music and performance up and down the street, in store promotions, a vintage fair at Leaf, comedy, stuff for kids and loads more. Starts at 12pm. More information

‘Cloud’

ART A beautiful, rather joyful art installation and interactive sculpture by Canadian artist Caitlind Brown. Presented at Art Nuit Calgary, it consists of 6,000 lightbulbs, jumbled together to resemble a glowing cloud. Don’t fancy paying that ‘leccy bill.

Abandon Silence Carnival Special, The Shipping Forecast, 27 September

CLUBNIGHT From wistful Swedes to arms-aloft vibes courtesy of the smile-inducing Abandon Silence crew and their surefooted curation of the best dubstep, electronica and disco. This could well be the best way to warm up any weekend, safe in the hands of Roska, Mele, and Rich Furness. Probably best to take Friday off. http://www.facebook.com/AbandonSilenceLiverpool

The Amazing iOS 6 Maps

BLOG Took a turn off Edge Lane and ended up in Mumbai? You’ll enjoy this, then: a new Tumblr featuring the very worst mistakes of Apple’s Maps iPhone app, which replaces the rather brilliant Google Maps. The shoddy, much derided new maps functionality is documented here in all its inaccurate, pixellated, weirdly shaped horror. Proof that, as much as we like their stuff, Apple doesn’t get it right all the time. http://theamazingios6maps.tumblr.com/
