Woody Allen: A Documentary

DVD There have been others, but this affectionate document of Allen’s 40 year film career is big on Allen’s quirks, his inner circle, and his relentless quest for perfection. It’s not so big on his relationship with Soon-Yi, but for fans of this genius of late 20th century cinema, watching this documentary is like swimming in chocolate. Out on DVD now. Celebrate MOBO - from 28th October

EVENT A free three day event to celebrate the music awards’ visit to the Echo Arena in November, these workshops, panels and seminars sound rather essential. Get advice and hear expert opinions from a range of respected actors, musicians and creatives, including award winning Ashley Walters, who’s starred in more brilliant TV shows than we can think of. Turner, Monet, Twomby - Tate Liverpool

EXHIBITION It’s your last chance this weekend: if you’ve not seen the must-see show of the summer get down to Tate this week and sort it out. It really is all that (read our review here). Vamp and Furnace - 27 October, Camp and Furnace

Went to the “shambles” that was Scarewood Forest last night … arrived 7.40 for an 8.00 (ticketed) event - to discover no food left aside from soup, and a crowd of people milling about in the dark with zero information … at 9-15 (90 minutes later) after standing in the cold,wet night, a representative appeared to offer the news that we’d have at least another 30 minutes wait and that we should “try and enjoy” the wait or go into the bar … we complained and were told we could email the company “and you might get a refund” - 7 x £18.50 is a fair amount of cash to waste. In the end we gave up and went home about 9.30 …
