The Picket to feature in new Museum of Liverpool display

The Museum of Liverpool’s got some brilliant stuff in it, but if you’ve not managed to have a look around it yet - or you’re just incredibly lazy (it’s been open for a year, FFS) - then now’s your chance.

Today it’s been announced The Picket, that iconic Liverpool music venue that’s hosted so many amazing events, is to feature in a display within the Museum. Though The Picket’s had a couple of different homes (and closed for a period back in the mid-2000s), it’s always been a huge, respected player in the city’s music scene.

From its Hardman Street base back in the day through to its current warehouse space on Jordan Street - one of the first organisations to make a dent in the new Baltic Triangle - The Picket’s been a consistent part of nurturing the local music scene. Most notably, their booze-free ‘Dry Bar’ gigs for under 18s were the only place in the city for young bands to play, and left a gaping hole when its Hardman Street incarnation shut its doors in 2004.

The display, housed in the Museum’s excellent Wondrous Place gallery, features film, objects and quotes, and is set to be unveiled next week. Hooray.
