Radar: Summercamp at Camp and Furnace

Things are definitely starting to hot up. And we're not talking about that strange orange ball in the sky. We're talking Camp and Furnace's new Summercamp weekender, this August...

It’s what August Bank Holidays are now made for. And rain definitely won’t stop play. Welcome the new Camp and Furnace late summer city hoe-down.

As part of the all new Liverpool International Music Festival, Camp and Furnace is programming a new kind of urban retreat: with Mount Kimbie! Family frolics! Biennial-approved arty stuff! Food! Did we say Mount Kimbie?! Food? Er, this is what we know…

For two days (Saturday 24th, and Sunday 25th August) this ‘village fete meets a bloc party’ throws outdoor and indoor stages into the streets and warehouses surrounding Camp and Furnace’s Greenland Street home for one big late summer celebration.

Mount Kimbie (how amazing were they at Sound City?), Martha Wainwright and Ghostpoet, together with homegrown folk trio The Staves and one of our favourite new 80s apologists, who are all over KCRW’s playlist, Merchandise, head up a tasty music menu.

NEW: Delphic, Ed Harcourt, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Wave Machines have also been added to the bill. Making it twice as tasty.

Talking of tasty, there’s also a new Gothic midnight feast added.

Summercamp’s food offer is curated by Birkenhead’s own Simon Rimmer, alongside Camp and Furnace’s head chef Steven Burgess. The pair have enlisted Michelin Starred chef and Great British Menu finalist Glynn Purnell, who will create two gourmet menus, picnics and street food.

Liverpool Biennial is staging The Experimental Music School, a family programme of workshops, messy crafts and hands-on shenanigans, including a music-making masterclass with Ex-Easter Island Head.

Elsewhere, FACT will be curating a film strand - handy if wet.

The Just So Festival (the boutique festival of creativity aimed at children, young people and their families), will include treasure hunts food, film, music, making and dressing up running all day long.

So, that’s summer sorted then. Or at least its final, thrilling throes. See you there. No wellies required.
